Register with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae
If you whakapapa to Ngāti Waewae, we encourage you to register with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae.
Registering helps us keep our whānau connected and ensures our records reflect the people who descend from our tūpuna. It also helps you stay informed about rūnanga kaupapa, hui, wānanga, opportunities and important pānui.
Why Register?
Becoming registered with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae helps you stay connected to your hapū, your marae and your tūrangawaewae.
Registration means:
- You can receive pānui, newsletters and updates from Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae.
- You can stay informed about hui, wānanga, community events and kaupapa happening at Arahura Marae and across our takiwā.
- You can receive information about opportunities, including education, scholarships, employment, training and whānau kaupapa.
- You can participate in rūnanga business, elections and decision-making where eligibility requirements are met.
- You help us maintain accurate whakapapa records for current and future generations.
Who Can Register?
Whakapapa registration is open to those who can show direct descent from Ngāti Waewae tūpuna.
Applicants must be able to provide their direct whakapapa line to one or more of the following tūpuna:
Tarapuhi Te Kaukihi
Wereta Tainui
Nihorere
Registration is subject to the membership and eligibility requirements set out in the Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae Constitution.
You may also complete a registration form on behalf of tamariki or mokopuna under 18 years old.
To support your application, you will need to provide your whakapapa details and attach a copy of your full birth certificate.
How to Register
To register, please download and complete the Whakapapa Registration Form.
Once completed, please return your form and supporting documents to the Arahura Marae Office by email.

You will need to provide:
- Your full name and contact details.
- Your Ngāi Tahu whakapapa number, if known.
- A copy of your full birth certificate.
- Your direct whakapapa line connecting you to Tarapuhi Te Kaukihi, Wereta Tainui and/or Nihorere.
- Any supporting whakapapa information, if available.
Please complete the form as fully as possible. Incomplete applications may be returned for further information.
What Happens Next?
Once your form has been received, it will be reviewed and processed through the appropriate whakapapa registration process.
You may be contacted if further information or supporting documentation is required.
Once your registration has been processed, you will be contacted to confirm the outcome of your application.
